Workspaces, members and roles

A workspace is the shared space that holds your apps, licenses and settings. Invite teammates into it to run things together, each with a role that sets exactly what they can do.

What a workspace holds

Everything you create in the dashboard belongs to a workspace: apps, licenses, end users, webhooks, alerts, Seller API keys and resellers. Your plan (Basic or Premium) and its limits also apply per workspace, not per account.

When you sign up, ClavisAUH creates a personal workspace for you:

  • It is named <your name>'s workspace, using your display name, or the part of your email before the @ if the account has no name yet.
  • Its URL name (slug) is built from that name plus a short random suffix, and is fixed once created.
  • You are its Owner, and it starts on the Basic plan.

The dashboard has no button to create additional workspaces yet. Other workspaces show up in your account when you accept someone's invitation.

Renaming a workspace

The workspace name appears in the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar and in invitation emails, so pick something your teammates will recognize, such as your studio or product name.

  1. Open Account & organization › Workspace & members.
  2. In the Workspace card, edit Workspace name (up to 64 characters).
  3. Click Save. The dashboard confirms with "Workspace updated".

The URL name field is read-only. Only Owners and Admins can rename; for a Member, the name field is locked and there is no Save button.

The three roles

Everyone in a workspace has exactly one role. The server checks permissions on every request, so even if a button is visible, an action beyond your role is refused.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • The Owner role belongs to whoever created the workspace. When inviting, you can only choose Member or Admin.
  • The Owner cannot be removed from the workspace.
  • There is no way to change an existing member's role in the dashboard yet. To promote or demote someone, remove them and invite them again with the new role.

Inviting members

  1. Open Account & organization › Workspace & members and go to the Members card.
  2. Type the person's email address into the email field.
  3. Pick a role: Member (the default) or Admin.
  4. Click Invite. The dashboard confirms with "Invitation sent to ..." and the invitation appears in the list marked Pending with its role.

The invitee gets an email with a button that opens the invitation page. An invitation is valid for 48 hours after it is sent.

Common situations:

  • The address is already a member or has an unexpired invitation: the dashboard shows "This person is already in the workspace or invited".
  • There is no resend button. If an invitation expired or the email got lost, click the X (cancel invitation) at the end of its row and invite again.
  • Expired invitations stay in the list as Pending until you cancel them, so clear out the ones you no longer need.

Accepting an invitation

These are the steps on the invitee's side:

  1. Open the link in the email. The page shows "Invitation to <workspace name>", along with the inviter's email and the role on offer.
  2. If you are not signed in, click Sign in, or Open an account if you don't have one yet. Use the exact email address that was invited. After you sign in, or enter the email verification code for a new account, you land straight back on the invitation page.
  3. Click Accept invitation to join, or Decline.

Once you accept, you are taken to the dashboard. The new workspace is now in the workspace switcher, but the dashboard may still be showing your personal workspace, so switch to it as described in the next section. Someone who opens a new account to accept an invitation also gets their own personal workspace, like every account.

The page says This invitation is no longer valid when the invitation has expired, was already accepted or declined, was cancelled, the inviter is no longer in the workspace, or you are signed in with a different email from the invited one. In that last case, sign out and sign back in with the right address.

Switching workspaces

The workspace switcher sits at the top of the sidebar and shows the open workspace's name and plan.

  1. Click the workspace name at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Pick the workspace you want from the list. The open one has a check mark.

The whole dashboard follows your choice: the app list, usage figures, the Plan & usage page and your own role. The choice is remembered in the browser you are using. In another browser, a private window, or when the remembered workspace is no longer available to you, the dashboard opens the workspace you joined first, usually your personal one.

Removing a member

Owners and Admins see a remove button at the end of every member row except the Owner's.

  1. Open Account & organization › Workspace & members.
  2. Click the remove button (a person icon with a minus sign) on that person's row. It takes effect immediately, with no confirmation dialog.

After removal:

  • The person loses access to the workspace from their next request, and it disappears from their workspace switcher.
  • Their account and personal workspace are untouched.
  • Anything they created (apps, licenses, settings) stays in the workspace.

There is no "leave workspace" button yet. If you want to leave, ask the Owner or an Admin to remove you.

Team member limits per plan

The number of people in a workspace is capped by the plan's Team members limit, and the Owner counts toward it. The figure that applies to your workspace is on Account & organization › Plan & usage.

PlanTeam members (default)
Basic1
Premium10

The ClavisAUH team can adjust limits for a whole plan or for a single workspace, so the number on Plan & usage is the one that counts for you.

How the limit works:

  • The {used} / {total} seats line under the Members card title counts both members and pending invitations. ∞ means no limit.
  • The limit is checked when the invitee clicks Accept invitation. If the workspace is already full, accepting fails and the invitation stays pending, so the person can try again once a seat frees up (as long as the invitation has not expired). Sending an invitation is not blocked by this limit.
  • With the default limits, Basic has a single seat, which is the Owner. To work as a team you need a plan with more seats; the Plan & usage page explains how to upgrade.
  • When a paid period ends, the workspace falls back to Basic limits. Existing members are not removed, but nobody new can accept an invitation until the headcount drops below the limit or you renew.

How can we help?

Frequently asked

What is ClavisAUH?

A licensing and authentication service for desktop software: license keys, device binding, end-user sign-in and signed responses. All run from one dashboard

Why can't a cracker fake your server?

The SDK only trusts answers signed with your app's private key. That key never leaves our servers, so a fake server can't sign and gets rejected

What ends up in my binary?

Your app id and public key. Nothing secret, because each device makes its own key pair on first run

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every plan gets a signed offline token for 7 days, and your app checks it locally. Premium lets you choose how long. A revoked license can keep working offline for that time, unless Online-Only Mode is on

Which languages are supported?

JavaScript and TypeScript today. C++, C# and Python are next, on the same open protocol

Is Basic really free?

Yes. No time limit, no card. Move to Premium when you need more
